Prof. Raja Zafar Khan represented JKLF in a Kashmir debate held in Oxford University, UK.

The debate was organized by Oxford Union titled ‘’this house believes in an Independent state of Kashmir’’.

Prof. Zafar Khan defended the title well with historical background loaded with facts about the struggle.

The idea of an Independent State of Kashmir received overwhelming support from the audience.

Malicious and hateful Indian media propaganda against the event was condemned.

The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) hailed the Oxford University Union leaders for organizing a debate on Kashmir at the University campus on Thursday evening, the 14 November, 2024. The debate titled “This house believes in an Independent State of Kashmir”. Professor Raja Zafar Khan, the head of JKLF diplomatic bureau, as one of the main speakers represented JKLF and made his presentation in favor of the title. This was stated by the JKLF chief spokesman Muhammad Rafiq Dar while giving details of the event.

According to the statement issued by the spokesman from JKLF central information office, Prof. Raja Zafar Khan during his marvelous presentation in the debate defended the title well with historical background of Kashmir issue loaded with the undeniable facts about the ongoing national liberation struggle in the State of Jammu Kashmir. While emphasizing the need of the just, permanent, democratic and peaceful resolution, Prof. Zafar Khan in unequivocal terms said that the reunification followed by the resumption of lost independence and sovereignty of the currently divided State of Jammu Kashmir is the only viable and honorable solution of the issue.

Prof. Zafar Khan in his address said that the State of Jammu Kashmir, comprising upon an area of almost 85000 sq/km with multi religious, multi linguistic and multi-racial population of 25 Million approximately, contains a rich written history of over 5000 years which enjoyed rich and unprecedented values of brotherhood and communal harmony between the different communities of the society, the statement read. The other two speakers in the panel who spoke in favor of the title were Dr. Muzammil Ayub Thakur, a Kashmir diaspora activist, and the University student Raza Nazar. All the three speakers for proposition defended the title well with their logical, rationale and arguments based on facts which were encountered by the opposition speakers with weak and irrational arguments.

The JKLF spokesman in his statement condemned the act of Indian media that remained busy yesterday in making malicious and hateful propaganda against Oxford Union, the organizers of the event, and the speakers of proposition. He termed it as an act of interference in the Oxford Union affairs. However, the timely action of the organizers against a handful of participants influenced by a hateful Indian media campaign, who tried to disrupt the proceedings, made the event go smoothly.

According to the reports the Indian government received a big jolt when an overwhelming majority of the participants, mostly the students including many Indians as well, voted in favor of the motion that the Independent State of Jammu Kashmir is a viable option for the conflict resolution, the statement informed.

The entire JKLF leadership hailed Prof. Raja Zafar Khan for representing his party stand and the national freedom struggle in the event through his well thought out presentation paper, the spokesman said. He further informed that the UK based JKLF’s central chief organizer Mr. Sabir Gul and student’s leader Khawaja Aneeq accompanied Prof. Zafar Khan to the event as the guests of Oxford Union.
